The end of the nap

Despite still occasionally taking 3 hour naps and sleeping like a baby at school, fiona seems to have grown out of her daily nap. I had hoped that napping was something we would have to break her of so she could go to first grade eventually but alas we have lost the nap. Which also means that the 2 hours of free time we have been blessed with in the afternoons has gone. Darn.

One Girl Band!

I gave Fiona an old harmonica a couple of days ago, and when she found my banjo lying unattended on the couch, she put two and two together and formed a one-girl-band... FFfffffffffffffff

Night Crying Tagger

Hi All, Well we've made it mostly through this illness, but for the last few nights fiona has been waking up and crying in the night, not mournful crying but tantrumesque yelling and thrashing. We are tired, but we will keep fiona despite this. Another little behavioural complaint....as I am sitting on the couch today I notice a tagger has assaulted the couch with "f's" in ball point pen!!!!!!!!!! She owned up to it and helped a little with the scrubbing and has pledged not to be seen with a pen on the couch again.

Consciousness is that annoying time between naps

Fiona is still as she puts it "not feeling my best." After vegging out on Go Diego Go followed by Land Before Time she cuddled onto my lap and said' "Mama, may I sleep?' At which point I bundled her off to her favourite place for a nap, my bed, where she is sleeping now. She did have a 103 degree fever which made it an easy sale, but I gave her some tylenol, fought briefly about taking her Pj's off (4:00PM) to cool her down, she refused, i don't have the heart to tell a kid who says she's "cold" to remove her warm top... so she's now warm and sweaty in my bed and as soon as devon comes home from work.....she's all his.

Found It!

Hi All sorry for the delay in posts. Aside from being busy having fun, we have been busy with life stuff, and I lost the camera, my keys, fiona has been sick, we've had house guests, I have been working more than usual, etc etc etc. But we are all well with the exception of fiona's runny nose/fever/cough/diarrhea/ and this morning's vomit. So there we are...

Before the latest bout of illness fiona and I went for a walk at Pogonip along a trail that I love. We saw banana slugs and even found a "bear cave" really too small for a bear but we have big imaginations. Fiona is always on the lookout for mountain lions these days which I think stems from a camping trip last summer when she was dawdling too far behind and I told her to hurry up or mountain lions would get her. A first time mother's mistake, because it has created her first fear in the world. But a good fear, we really wouldn't want a mountain lion to get too close.

We had a nice visit with Fiona's Cousin from New Jersey this week. Matteo and his friend visited and fiona had a good time helping to entertain them, boogers and all.

Fiona's latest thing is in trying to write her name whenever she finds a pan and paper unattended. She is pretty good at the F's I's and O's the N's and the A's are trickier. She is increasingly incorporating spanish into her vocabulary too. Counting and saying the colours as well as commands like Vamanos! when she wants us to come along.

On monday mornings we are enjoying going to our music together class, She loves to sing and dance and play instruments. Its a great time for all of us. Preschool is going well on tuesday and thursdays too though she is likely to miss both days this week with the dreaded lurgy. I suppose we are in for many more years of boogers.
